And not just any trash… that government issued industrial trash. Alright, so we have all been there – when we’ve wanted to clap back on a bi**h when they say something like, “You look tired.” First off, that is just rude to say. I know I look tired because I am tired!!! When you tell someone they look tired, you are giving them your unsolicited opinion about their appearance. You are letting them know how much of a hot mess they are looking that day. I know you mean well, but chill out with that statement. If you ever say this to someone just know that their clapback may be a gut buster, so brace yourself!
First off, for you to tell a coworker that he/she looks tired, you have to be really confident in your appearance that day. You can’t just look super regular and hit someone with the, “you look tired” statement because man oh man someone could really rip you to filth with their clapback.
I know that you may be genuinely concerned for your colleague so let me help you out. Here are a few statements that you can say in place of “you look tired.”
- If the person is frequently yawning, then you can say, “You seem tired.” That statement is only in response to an action that they have made, not their general appearance.
- “Did you have a good night?” This question opens up the conversation that your coworker may or may not want to have, but it shows that you are interested in them talking about their night.
- How did your night end up? That shows concern without commenting on the person’s appearance without actually telling them that they look like they pulled an all-nighter.
Moral of the story, the only time you should say something remotely close to, “you look tired,” is when a person is yawning frequently, then you may say, “You seem tired.” At that point, that comment has nothing to do with personal appearance, but an obvious action that has a valid assumption of tiredness.
